A person using a mobile phone while driving is four times more likely to have a serious car crash.

It’s common to see drivers at traffic lights with their heads down, tapping away on their phones, trying to avoid being ‘caught’. Sometimes the legality behind simply replying to a text message at a red light seems harmless but it’s a distraction nonetheless.

A recent QUT survey of nearly 800 Queensland drivers found that 77% reported using their mobile phone for any purpose while driving. Overall, 25% of drivers reported using their hand-held mobile phone to answer calls on a daily basis, 20% of drivers reported doing so to make a call, 27% to read a text message and 14% to send a text message.
